Today Mani Ratnam celebrates his 59th birthday and on this eve we would like to show you some of the facts related to this legend.

1. Mani Ratnam’s original name is Gopal Ratnam Subramaniam Iyer

2. He is a vegetarian

3. Even though he is a Tamilian, his debut was a Kannada movie named Pallavi Anupallavi starring Anil Kapoor and Lakshmi


4. Legendary director Balu Mahendra acted as photographer for Pallavi Anupallavi even though Mani Ratnam has no directorial experience

5. He is known for his association with Maestro Ilayaraja who gave some mind blowing music for his movies like Nayagan, Thalapathi, Anjali, Mouna Ragam
